Rationalising MI & Reporting for a Building Society

The Outcome

Woodhurst’s recommendations supported the enhancement of the Society’s MI & Reporting suite considerably, following work that included:

target state requirements captured
0
current state reports reviewed
0
rationalisation of reporting estate
0 %
stakeholders engaged
0

The Challenge

  • The Building Society was having to manage a high volume of legacy reports, the majority of which were produced and processed manually to gain the required insights
  • The Society lacked an understanding of what reports were being used for and by who
  • Teams were using multiple reports to fulfil one user requirement, meanwhile different teams were using different reports for the same purpose
  • The lack of real time data and self-serve ability hindered the organisation’s overall efficiency in MI & Reporting

How Woodhurst Helped

We developed a full scope of MI and reporting requirements for the target state. This enabled the right people, to get the right information, at the right time, and focused on the following 4 areas:

  • Target state requirements: Ran a series of workshops with key stakeholders to develop 730 target state MI & Reporting requirements for the entire society.
  • Current State Report and Decommission List: Engaged with Change & Analysis and IT teams to document a complete register of 485 current state reports, providing full visibility for the first time.
  • Captured traceability from existing reports to target state, which identified a list of 185 reports to be decommissioned in order to immediately simplify the landscape.
  • Executive Summaries: Prepared Executive Summaries across all reporting categories to facilitate review sessions with Leadership, obtain approval, and provide a high-level overview of the MI & Reporting requirements.
  • Implementation Plan: Developed an agile implementation plan for a phased and prioritised delivery of the requirements.

The Outcome

  • Provided visibility into the entire reporting landscape across 485 reports, for the first time
  • Rationalised over 700 requirements into user stories
  • Identified the opportunity to rationalise the reporting suite by over 30% to meet specific user needs
  • Created traceability back to what is being reported on today and identified legacy reports to be decommissioned
  • Developed a proposal that described which platform each report should be hosted from, its priority, and a high-level implementation plan

Woodhurst’s structured problem-solving approach, rapid integration into our team, effective facilitation, and leadership in handling the project have truly impressed us. The visual outputs were invaluable, and their unwavering commitment ensured the successful completion of a project that others might have shielded away from.”
