Data Uplift & Implementation Plan For A Medium Sized Building Society

The Challenge

  • A building society that recognised the strategic value of data, but didn’t have a clear action plan nor the capabilities internally required support to realise that value.
  • The society’s routine-reporting was built on legacy data infrastructure that was neither cost effective nor scalable, with reports running inefficiently and licence spend scaling with new users. Legacy infrastructure also made hiring the correct skills difficult due to the scarcity of specialists.

How Woodhurst Helped

Over the course of 12 weeks, we worked closely with the society to lay the foundations for a data architecture uplift, culminating in a recommended data architecture that would be appropriate for the society’s specific business goals and target state.

  • Data Vision and Requirement Generation: Through a series of 1-1 sessions with different departments, as well as a workshop bringing relevant stakeholders together, we outlined what the future state of data within the society should look like, with prioritisation of next steps.
  • Best Practice Upskilling: Provided practical data training with a guide to industry best practice through a series of interactive activities, discussions, knowledge sharing sessions, and proof of concepts.
  • As-is State Analysis and Implementation Plan: Reconciled the current state with the envisioned target state, providing actionable recommendations, including: a detailed data landscape assessment, vendor selection, a bespoke architecture proposal, future resource requirements, and optimised ways of working to achieve the desired outcome.

The Outcome

Together, we paved the way for future development by delivering:

  • A future architecture design that is predicted to reduce legacy costs by 90%, whilst enabling scale, ease of use, and easier resourcing.
  • A clear data vision for the society that brought with it a desire to improve the data infrastructure across well aligned stakeholders.
