The Challenge

  • Creating business cases around modernising legacy architecture can be difficult; on their own the projects can be quite small and tend to fall to the back of the queue for funding.
  • A CMA9 bank was keen for Woodhurst to refine the 5-year roadmap and revise the strategic outcomes for the portfolio in line with Group-wide vision.

How Woodhurst Helped

  • Opportunity Identification: Working with architects across the bank, Woodhurst were able to identify a series of programmes which met the criteria for investment. These spanned from consolidating legacy platforms onto a strategic solution, implementing digital first solutions and demising on-prem warehouses and migrating to Cloud.
  • Portfolio Management: Defined the portfolio governance standards in-line with the Change Framework to establish a rigorous governance, streamline reporting processes, and drive delivery consistency.
  • Business Cases Review and Prioritisation: Performed analysis to understand the opportunities in more detail and managed the backlog of programmes by performing yearly reviews of proposed business cases and advising on prioritisation based on strategic alignment
  • Delivery of Benefits: Mobilised the programme and ensured successful delivery against overall portfolio targets (both architectural and financial).

The Outcome

  • Successful delivery of planned benefits. The banks architecture was modernised in several different areas reducing operational risk and realising cost savings.
  • A blueprint was created for future architecture simplification programmes to seek funding and delivery support.
  • Clear governance standards were defined to support delivery of funded programmes, ensure reporting transparency and streamline the portfolio’s backlog management.
