Interview Advice
Question 1 – How should I prepare for an Interview?
It is vital to ensure that you are prepared for an interview in terms of your outline knowledge of the company conducting the interview, the job specification and your own enthusiasm for the role. The best from of preparation is conducting your own research. The company’s website will proved detailed information.
Your Woodhurst Consultant will give you additional information about the culture, the working environment and about the nature of the role in hand, as well as interview format and the individual(s) with whom you are scheduled to meet.
Do not forget to ensure that you know your own CV and information about your existing organisation in preparation for questions. Make a list of any aspects of your CV where you feel questions will be asked and practice your responses.
Some roles require assessment days as opposed to 1/2/3 stage interview processes; ensure you are fully prepared in advance e.g. a presentation. Allow enough time for the assessment day in terms of other work commitments – ensure you know exactly when it will start of finish.
Question 2 – How should I present myself on the day?
The golden rule is to be enthusiastic about yourself, your achievements and the opportunity. Try to be relaxed, be assertive when required and talk about what YOU actually have achieved.
Question 3 – What are the typical questions I should expect?
Like interviews, questions at interview can vary greatly from industry-to-industry and even role to role. As discussed previously, be prepared to talk through the contents of your CV. What roles you have found most challenging, how you have overcome these challenges. Where do you see/want your career to lead to? How would other individuals that you work with describe you? Preferred working environment? How you benefit or have benefited your current/previous employers? Also be prepared to talk about yourself on a personal level; more and more organisations are aware of the importance of “fit”, especially for permanent roles.
