You need to complete certain documents and send them to the Registrar of Companies, together with a fee. You may wish to consultant an accountant for advice. You can use a company formation agent such as Jordan’s and London Law. Companies House have produced this guide to setting up a new company.
Question 2 - I am employed by one of your search and selection clients. Will you accept me as a contractor? We have a general policy against poaching staff from our clients. However, we can consider your application if you have been made redundant or can produce an 'at-risk' letter.
Question 3 - How often will you contact me once I become an approved contractor? We will contact you regularly as suitable engagements arise.
Question 4 - How often do I need to send you an updated c.v.?As soon as you complete an engagement. This allows us to assign you to the most suitable and rewarding projects.
Question 5 - Where are your projects based?Projects arise throughout the UK and may involve staying away from home during the week. You should tell us if there are any regions in which you are not willing to work.
Question 6 - How am I paid? You will be paid on a day rate, which will depend on factors such as the nature and immediacy of the work, the length of the contract and its location and your qualifications and experience. Rates are negotiated on a bespoke basis as each contract arises.
You are responsible for invoicing us for the services provided by your company, and should submit an invoice every four weeks for payment one calendar month after the date of invoice (by BACS only). Your company must have its own bank account.
We will also send you a timesheet that you must complete and send to us on the Friday of each week you are working.
Normally, day rates are 'all inclusive'. However, depending on the project and client, you may be entitled to expenses, for example where travel is involved.
Question 8 - What insurance do I need? You will need professional indemnity insurance (PII) cover of £1m.
Question 9 - Do I have register for V.A.T.?You must register for V.A.T. if your company's turnover is likely to exceed the registration threshold. Please consult an accountant for further information.
Question 10 - Are all of your projects 'standard-rated' for V.A.T.?No. Some projects are V.A.T. exempt and you will not need to charge us V.A.T. for your work on such projects. You should consult an accountant on the implications of working on V.A.T.-exempt projects.
Question 11 - Can I work with you through a partnership? We prefer to contract with limited companies. However, if you have an existing partnership please tell us in your application or registration.
